Step 1 of 3

Communicating Purpose

Clarify the future you want to create and connect it to what matters most to your audience.

1Vision

Write this as an “I believe” statement. Using that phrase can help you express the conviction clearly, but the app will remove “I believe” from the final pitch.

2Intention or ambition

Enter a phrase that follows “I know you want…”

3Obstacle

Enter a phrase that follows “but…”

Your WIIFM statement

The app creates this statement after you complete the two answers above. You can then edit it freely.

Waiting for the intention and obstacle.

Step 2 of 3

Persuasive Elements

Choose the feeling you want to evoke, establish credibility and support the case with concrete proof.

4Pathos

Write a complete sentence that includes a specific emotion. Imagine the [emotion] someone (you, the customer or a specific constituency) feel when this problem affects them.

5Ethos

Ground your credibility in something concrete: personal experience, professional expertise, firsthand observation, results you have achieved, credible research or a trusted partnership.

Avoid general claims such as “I am an expert.” Show the audience what gives you standing to speak.

Begin the statement with “I” or “We,” depending on whether you are establishing credibility for yourself, your team, your organization or another group.

6Logos

What evidence supports your case? Three proof points required

Use specific facts, examples, results or observations that your audience can evaluate.

7Telos

Identify the action you want your audience to take. Your pitch will remain hidden until every item is complete.
